Hui Lu has been in practice for 27 years and has extensive experience in corporate, real estate and financing transactions, from mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, securities laws and regulations, cross-border and project financing, banking and corporate finance and foreign investments, to real property and development projects.
Hui Lu is identified as a Recommended Lawyer in the fields of Corporate, Mergers and Acquisitions and Real Estate and Construction in the 2014 edition of The Asia Pacific Legal 500 – The Guide to Asia’s Law Firms. Additionally, she is named as a Recommended Individual in Asialaw Profiles 2014 edition and as a Leading Lawyer by Asialaw Leading Lawyers in its 2014 edition.
Hui Lu graduated from the University of Bristol, England, and holds an LLM in corporate and commercial law from King’s College London. After being called to the Bar of England & Wales, she returned to Malaysia and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 1997.
- Advised Sime Darby Property Berhad on a RM2 Billion build to suit and lease project with a large US multinational technology conglomerate for a hyperscale data centre in Elmina Business Park.
- Advised GLM Emerald Industrial Park (Jasin) Sdn. Bhd. (a GuocoLand (Malaysia) Berhad and IOI Corporation Berhad joint venture company) on its disposal of approximately 844.94 hectares in aggregate of development lands in Jasin, Melaka, and advised Vintage Heights Sdn Bhd (a Guocoland (Malaysia) Berhad and Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad joint venture company) on its disposal of approximately 700 hectares of plantation land to Putrajaya Properties Sdn Bhd.
- Advised Hana Daol Fund Management Co. Ltd. of Korea on its initial acquisition, and subsequent disposal, of the office towers known as NU Sentral 1 and NU Sentral 2, from subsidiaries of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad, and to, respectively, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the Social Security Organisation, and also on its bid for the Citibank Tower on Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
- Advised The Hershey Company on its lease of industrial land from a subsidiary of MMC Corporation Berhad for the construction of its Malaysian plant.
- Advised the Pacific Alliance Group (a HK private investment firm with USD50 Billion of assets under management) in its acquisition of certain Malaysian assets.
- Advised Hong Leong Bank Berhad on its acquisition of the assets and liabilities of EON Capital Berhad.
- Advised the State Government of Sarawak on the merger of its hi-tech manufacturing subsidiary with a German public listed company, and the restructuring of the subsidiary’s US$1 Billion debts.
- Advised Bumrungrad International Ltd. on its proposed acquisition of a medical centre in Malaysia, and on its acquisition and subsequent disposal of Asia Renal Care Ltd’s Malaysian subsidiaries who are providers of dialysis and related services.
- Advised Sunzen Biotech Berhad and Johor Tin Berhad on their respective initial public offerings and listing on Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
- Advised Lehman Brothers (Thailand) Limited and Lehman Brothers Japan Inc. in their bid for, acquisition and securitisation of non-performing corporate and residential loans in Malaysia, involving inter alia an issuance of asset-backed securities in connection with the purchase of such non-performing loans by an SPV, and advised Lehman Brothers (via its liquidator KPMG) in its disposal / realisation of non-performing loan portfolios and collateral (including the Northam Tower in Penang), and its SPVs and their master administrators on the disposal of the SPVs’ non-performing loans portfolio.
- Advised Deutsche Bank AG on its proposed secondary acquisition of Malaysian non-performing loans.
- Advised a syndicate of lenders led by Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, RHB Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad on a RM1.1 billion project financing of a ferrosilicon smelting plant in the Samalaju Industrial Park, Sarawak.
- Advised a Korean real estate investment fund on the acquisition of junior Sukuk Istisna’ bonds issued by a Malaysian expressway sub-concessionaire.
