Biography

Wong Li Yee is a senior associate of Abdullah Chan & Co. Li Yee graduated from the University of Malaya and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of High Court of Malaya in May 2019.

Li Yee has extensive experience in the fields of mergers and acquisitions, takeovers including hostile takeover and defence matters, private equity investments, joint ventures including cross-border joint ventures, corporate finance, capital markets and corporate real estate matters. Li Yee was the lead associate in assisting the partners of Abdullah Chan & Co in advising Permodalan Nasional Berhad [one of] the largest fund management company in Malaysia owned by the Malaysian Government in the multi-billion dollar acquisition of Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad by Malaysia Building Society Berhad, which was an award-winning transaction (IFN M&A Deal of the Year 2023).

Li Yee also assisted in several major transactions such as the joint venture of 2 consortiums of multinational companies and a Malaysia conglomerate on their applications and successful receipt of their Digital Banking Licences, the multi-million acquisition of a controlling stake in a Malaysian general insurance company by a multi-national foreign entity, the multi-million acquisition of the entire equity interest of a precision machinery company by Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad, a public listed investment company controlled by the State of Selangor, and the disposal of a 51% equity stake in a Malaysian solar company.

Representative Work

• Lead associate advising Permodalan Nasional Berhad, one of Malaysia’s largest government-owned fund management companies, on the multi-billion dollar acquisition of Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad by Malaysia Building Society Berhad (IFN M&A Deal of the Year 2023).
